Meet the members of the Sports Department
Director of Sport – Sadie Lapper – BSc hons, PGCE PE, PG Cert, MSc
Sadie has spent much of her life either playing or coaching hockey. After starting her hockey playing career at Henley Hockey Club, she soon progressed to playing for Sutton Coldfield in the English National Premier League and later for England Students. Sadie turned her attention to coaching early on and is currently coaching Banbury Ladies 1st XI who play in the South Regional League. Having been a qualified PE teacher for 14 years she has breadth and depth to her teaching and is a strong advocate of sport for all. Sadie’s key interests are developing talented young players and encouraging lifelong participation in sport and exercise in the girls in her care.
2nd IC / Head of Academic PE – Charlotte Pemble – BSc hons, PGCE PE
Charlotte is Head of Academic PE and 2nd in Department having taught across a range of schools during her ten-year teaching career. Prior to Tudor Hall she taught at Harrow Beijing and BIS Vietnam. Her specialisms are Netball and Swimming.
Head of Hockey – James Long – BA, PGCE PE
James was appointed Head of Hockey in September 2016. He is also a IIIs Group Tutor and teaches Physical Education. James gained a PGCE in Physical Education from the Liverpool John Moores University. He has played National League Hockey and is an England Hockey Level 2 Coach.
Head of Netball – Emma Dathan – BSc hons, PGCE PE
Emma has a vast amount of experience in the independent school sector which adds a great degree of depth to her teaching ability. She has played both Lacrosse and Netball to club level and has continued to develop her knowledge in a variety of coaching and umpiring roles.
Head of Tennis – Mark Boden – BSc hons, LTA Level 4 Performance Coach
Mark is a top level performance coach and has been at Tudor since 2004. He is heavily involved with school and community coaching programmes through his company Tennisolutions and has several top quality coaches working for him. Mark also runs holiday tennis camps at Tudor and Carrdus.
Head of Facilities and Head of Swimming – Ryan Pickering
Ryan is a sports enthusiast who enjoys keeping fit and playing rugby for Banbury for the Wanderers 3rd XV and the Old Nicks Veterans side. In his youth Ryan tried his hand at many sports including Football, Table Tennis, Match Fishing and Judo. He began coaching at age 16 and has a wealth of experience to draw upon with many coaching qualifications. Ryan is a Personal trainer, Boxercise instructor, Lacrosse Coach, Lifeguard and First Aid Trainer Assessor. As Head of Swimming, he runs the learn to swim programme and the competitive swimming squad. In the holidays, Ryan runs the Summer Camp.
PE Teacher – Amanda Brauer – BA hons, PGCE PE
Amanda is a qualified PT instructor with 32 years’ teaching experience. Her focus is Sixth Form.
PE Teacher – Pip Duncan-Jones – BSc, PGCE PE
PE Teacher – Kelly Thornton – Bed PE (Hons)
After completing her degree, Kelly started teaching at a local state school, where she was Acting Head of Girls’ PE. She then spent three years living and teaching in a primary school in Australia, where she was Head of Physical Education and Sports Coordinator. Kelly loves running and her current aim is to regain her fitness levels pre-children. One of her passions is the outdoors, particularly hiking with her husband.
PE Teacher – Lauren Nightingale
Lauren is a keen dancer and gymnast and has competed Nationally in both sports. She teaches on all of our gym and dance rotations and helps give our girls a really good grounding in both gymnastics and dance.
PE Teacher – Gerard Duncan – PGDSST, BPE
Lacrosse Coach – Helen Fryer
Helen has extensive knowledge in playing and coaching lacrosse and has international honours in the sport. She joined us in 2016 and has focused on introducing lacrosse to our junior girls.
Hockey Coach – Liz Mcvey – BEd Hons
Liz is Head of Sport at Carrdus school and works part time at Tudor in the hockey season. With a wealth of experience in playing and coaching, Liz is an extremely valuable asset to the PE department. Liz has played hockey to a high standard, representing at county and regional level and playing National League hockey. Liz still represents England in the Masters team and won two gold medals in the Masters World Cup in 2014 and 2016. When Liz has time away from an astro she loves spending time with her two dogs Storm and Breeze.
Fixture Secretary and Netball Coach – Rachael Knapman
Rachael has a significant amount of experience in playing and coaching Netball having represented at Regional and County level. She has an excellent knowledge of the game and works very hard with our shooters to improve technique and consistency.
Dance Teacher – Bronwen Robinson
Bronwen is a highly experienced dance teacher with qualifications in every area of dance, yoga and mindfulness. She adds depth to our PE programme and teaches both dance and dancercise to our senior girls. Bronwen has a contagious enthusiasm for all things related to dance and as such dancercise is always a popular option for our girls.
Dance Teacher – Sarah Hammond
Sarah is a qualified dance teacher and offers the girls more formal ballroom dance lessons allowing them to develop lifelong skills in these areas. Sarah also delivers dancercise and aerobics to our senior girls, and she is heavily involved in drama productions with choreography and performance.
PE Teacher – Caroline Ledger
Caroline has experience in many sports, and played hockey to a county standard. Caroline’s passion is gymnastics and has worked hard to develop the gymnastics programme at both Carrdus and Tudor hall. Her love of sport is passed on to the girls, in a nurturing and fun environment.
Coach – Harriet Millar Mills
Harriet studied Sports Technology at Loughborough University and is trained as a maths teacher. She is also a member of the Red Roses England Women’s Rugby squad. Harriet, the Women’s Premiership Players’ Player of the Year for the second season in 2016/17, was part of the recent World Cup squad. She has knowledge of a variety of sports and works hard to get the girls to believe in themselves and reach the highest levels possible.
Tennis and Netball Coach – Jo Kelly
Jo was appointed as Head of Netball in September 2010 and retired in August 2017 after seven fantastic years. although she will continue to support Netball and Tennis on a part-time basis. Jo has made outstanding contributions to Oxfordshire Netball over the last 52 years and recently received a dedication award to recognise her achievements. Jo currently works with England Netball and Netball Europe to assess newly qualified Umpires and is one of only five in Europe to be on the Umpiring Appointments Panel for the International Netball Federation (INF). Jo is a qualified Level 2 Coach and Accredited Award Tester for England Netball. Jo’s key career highlights include umpiring at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester 2002, theWorld Championships in Jamaica 2003 and most recently umpiring the Netball Super League Final in 2010.
Tennis Coach – Shola Adebisi – LTA Performance Coach
Ade started playing Tennis from a very early age and progressed to playing at the National level in Nigeria and in international tournaments. Ade is a very talented, patient, professional and effective coach.
Tennis Coach – Godwin Abah
Godwin works with a variety of our girls, from beginners through to the more advanced. Godwin also works at Carrdus School and for Banbury tennis club. Godwin has extensive playing experience, representing at National level in Nigeria and participating in a variety of competitions throughout the world.
Tennis Coach – Pam Eagles – LTA Level 2 Tennis Coach
Pam has a wealth of experience in tennis having been a former junior Wimbledon player. She has been a very successful tennis player on the county circuit and has a plethora of titles under her belt. Pam also coaches squash, badminton and assists with netball umpiring and coaching in the spring term.
